Kentucky bourbon whiskey distiller Jim Beam has unveiled what it describes as its first 'artificially intelligent decanter'.
Named 'Jim', the decanter can pour a shot of bourbon through voice command and give wry responses to several commands and questions. The device is voiced by Fred Noe, a seventh-generation master distiller at Jim Beam.
“‘Jim’ is advancing the technology of shot pouring and drinking, providing bourbon lovers a high-tech way to enjoy America’s native spirit,” according to Beam Suntory, the parent company of Jim Beam.
From Silicon Valley To Kentucky
While the device can’t turn off the lights or sing a song, it bridges the gap between Silicon Valley and Kentucky with unique artificial intelligence that will answer your questions and pour you a glass of bourbon, according to Beam Suntory.
“He can’t order you a cab to Cupertino, but at Jim Beam, we believe he’s the most important decanter ever created,” says the narrator in the video preview.
“At Jim Beam, we’re in the business of evolving the way people drink delicious bourbon,” said Fred Noe. “For decades, we produced unique limited-edition decanters that are now collectors’ items. And now, we’re introducing a smart decanter that lets fans enjoy their bourbon on demand with friends and family.”
Beam Suntory says that ’Jim’ is available for pre-order in limited quantities at a price of $34.90.
