Majestic Wine's chief executive Steve Lewis has stepped down from his postion after six years in the post.
An employee at Majestic Wine for 29 years, he was on the board for six years and successfully led the company through a very challenging period.
He led the drinks business through the recession and credit squeeze.
During his time as head of the company, sales rose by 41 per cent and profits were up by 42 per cent.
Commenting on the news, Phil Wrigley, chairman of Majestic Wine, said: "Steve has made a huge contribution to Majestic Wine during his time in the business."
He continued: "By combining his significant leadership and retailing skills with his determination, dedication and sheer hard work he successfully rose through the ranks from graduate trainee to chief executive."
Lewis will be replaced by finance director Nigel Alldritt on an interim basis.
