Predominantly as a result of increased sales through Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, the Australian wine brand McGuigan has surpassed its Californian competitor Gallo to become the fourth-biggest wine brand in the United Kingdom, thedrinksbusiness.com reports.
The website quotes the improvement in UK sales at 22 per cent within the past year for the brand owned by Australian Vintage.
The wine company will soon widen its nexus of distribution in Britain after a reaching an agreement with Asda, which will see the grocer stock the wines of McGuigan’s Classic, Reserve and Shortlist lines.
The general manager of Australian Vintage UK & Europe, stated, “We are focused on continued growth as a brand and on gaining market share through sustainable and profitable expansion. Our philosophy is to bring quality wines at affordable prices to the market, and we are pleased to have secured this new distribution channel .”
McGuigan’s European sales figures improved by 28 per cent during the past six months on a like-for-like basis.
