Bordeaux wine prices have returned to their 2010 price points.
The Financial Times has reported statistics published by the Bordeaux Index, which demonstrate the strengthening value of the region's viticulture.
The good fortune for Bordeaux estates is owed in part to renewed demand in Hong Kong, and in part to the most recent reappraisals by Robert Parker, almost unquestionably the most influential wine writer in the world.
Parker, the only wine critic to win the highest civilian merit awards from Spain, France and Italy, increased the scores of several châteaux for 2005 vintages, including Haut-Brion, Latour, La Mission Haut-Brion, and (above all) Mouton Rothschild.
"We saw new ground broken with some astonishing prices achieved at Sotheby's ex-Chateau auction of wines from Mouton Rothschild," Guy Ruston, managing director of Bordeaux Index Hong Kong, was quoted as saying in the Financial Times.
