Sales of Portuguese wines are on the increase in Spain, according to a leading industry representative.
In an interview with efeagro.com, Manuel de Novaes, President of the Institute of Wines of Douro and Port (IVDP), said that exports of the region's wines to Spain are expected to maintain their current performance or increase in sales.
With regard to Douro wines, de Novaes said that wine sales from this region are still relatively small in Spain, but "they are a growing reality".
In 2015, exports of Douro wine to Spain only reached 3,000 cases, "but we are working hard for the recognition of these products."
He added that he considers Spain and Portugal as "neighbours and brothers" that have met again after centuries of being "back to back".
On a global level, Portuguese wine is performing strongly and numbers are consistently growing in important markets such as France, the Netherlands, Belgium, UK, United States and Canada.
