Five of Aldi UK’s private label whiskies have picked up prizes in the Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters, with two gold medals and thee silver medals awarded to the German retailer.
Its Single Malt Scotch Whisky (£17.49) was regarded by the judges of the event as the best in its category, and beat The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve – twice as expensive at £37.45 – to claim the prize. Aldi’s Glen Marnoch Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky also won gold in its category.
Three further Aldi SKUs – Glen Marnoch Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Highland Black 8-Year-Old Whisky and Highland Earl Scotch Whisky – won silver medals.
“Receiving five medals for our range is a fantastic achievement,” said Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi.
“Whisky has gone through a resurgence in popularity recently and it just goes to show that whisky lovers can enjoy great value products, which have been given the nod of approval by industry experts, without compromising on quality at Aldi.”
