Rueda's consistently ameliorating reputation for wine has attracted further investment capital from Spain's most known wine-producing region, Rioja
Bodegas Riojanas and Ramon Bilbao, two of Rioja's pillar winemakers, have purchased land in the the Community of Castile and León, Rueda, Denominación de Origen.
Verdejo is the region's starlet for white wine, and it is with this varietal that Ramon Bilbao will predominantly operate in the 60 hectares of vineyard it said it has purchased.
Ramon Bilbao makes Verdejo in Rueda at present in conjunction Diez Siglos, however, it is only now that is has its own vineyard in the municipality.
Marques de Caceres and Torres have each already invested in Rueda. It is understood that Rioja estates are investing outside their own terroirs because of the need for more white-wine making grapes.
