Rosé sales are up 104% at UK retailer Waitrose, with consumer demand for a new cocktail, dubbed the ‘frosé’ said to be behind this growth.
The retailer said that the ‘frosé’ cocktail, which is made by combining rosé wine with lemon juice and sugar, appeared in Waitrose Weekend, the supermarket's weekly newspaper, and has since gone on to national acclaim.
"Frosé really has taken the nation by storm, fusing together two summer favourites - rosé and cooling slushes,” a Waitrose spokesperson said. “Our customers are making the most of the British summer time and this homemade, adult version of a Slush Puppy is a fun way to entertain guests in the sunshine.”
Other drinks enjoying a sales boost include Pimms and Aperol, which are both up by more than 50%, bottled lager, which is up by 69%, and cider, which is up by 34%.
