Spain is the fourth highest consumer of soda, with an average consumption of 945 cans per capita per year, a study has found.
According to granconsumo.tv, the country drinks a total of 14,471 million litres a year, some 43,853 million cans.
The figures, obtained from a study by Constanza Business & Protocol School, found that Spanish consumers spend €16.218 million on soda, which equates to 1.6 per cent of Spain's GDP and 3.3 per cent of the global expenditure in the category.
On average, every Spanish consumer spends €349.57 a year on soda.
Regarding the biggest consumers by region, Madrid tops the list (331 litres per year), followed by Valencia (330 litres per year), and Catalonia (326 litres per year).
Globally, the USA is the biggest consumer of soda.
