Spanish consumers are spending more on wine, a study by Kantar Worldpanel has found.
During 2015, expenditure on wine grew by over 3 per cent, with an increase of 3.3 per cent at home and 3.9 per cent out of home, according to the 'Consumption of Wines in Spain In and Out of Home' report.
As reported by alimarket.es, the report highlights important differences between both moments of consumption. When buying wine to drink at home, Spanish spent an average of €4.60 while the figure reached €7.90 when is consumed out of home.
Regarding the preferred varieties of Spanish consumers, many are still playing safe and going for what they know, especially when buying for at-home. Seven of the most popular DOs in Spain (Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Catalonia/Penedés, Valdepeñas, Rueda, Mancha and Jumilla) account for 81 per cent of DO wine sales for home consumption, but only 57 per cent of wine drank out of home.
At home, 98 per cent of wine consumption takes place alongside food.
