Spanish Wine Exports To Asia Increased By 20%

Spanish wine exports to Asia during May 2016 registered growth of 20 per cent compared to the same month last year.

China was the main reason for this increase, consolidating itself as the number one Asian market for Spanish wines, surpassing Japan, after growing more than 40 per cent.

As reported on financialfood.es, Spain exported a total of 143.4 million litres of wine to Asia (21.8 per cent increase) for a value of €261.3 million (+20.9 per cent) in the year ending in March 2016. China and Japan together gathered 80 per cent of these exports.

Growth was smaller in Latin America, where volume increased by 0.5 per cent and sales rose by 4.4 per cent in the same period.

And while sales grew in Asia and Latin America, Spanish wine exports decreased in other markets, experiencing a drop of 11.5 per cent of sales in Africa.
