Sussex vineyard Sedlescombe Organic has taken home the ‘Top Gold’ medal for its 2015 Regent Rose wine, at the International Organic Wine Awards, held this month.
The UK vineyard competed against 61 other wines from eight different countries, including: France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Winemaker Roy Cook and wife Irma revealed how they were amazed and "shocked" to receive the accolade: “I had no idea [the wine] was good enough to blow away the competition completely, and win outright such a prestigious event with so many other top wines from big-name wine countries”.
Although UK wines are becoming more internationally recognised in the wine community, this is reportedly the first time that a British wine has become an outright winner in an International Wine competition.
