Tesco's wine offering is to benefit from the expertise of a newly appointed Master of Wine, James Davis.
To achieve the MW status is among the most prestigious achievements the the viticultural world. Tesco's appointment of Davis is noteworthy in that it indicates a willingness to couple genuine knowledge of the science behind wine along with an awareness of the marketability of specific brands etc.
Davis, who will join Tesco in May, is at present the senior wine-buyer at Greene King. He will report to Gavin Warburton, who is the supermarket chain's director of beer, wine and spirits. He succeeds Laura Jewell, MW, who left the company in November of last year.
Gavin stated, “James's broad experience will bring valued skills to the wine team. We look forward to welcoming him and working together to continue to bring excitement, quality and value for money to our customers in the wine aisle.”
