Tesco has rolled out the UK's first zero-alcohol stout, amidst a new range of low- and no-alcohol beers and ciders available at the retailer.
The Big Drop Non-Alcoholic Stout, which retails at £1.30 for a 330ml bottle, is just one in an array of products launched in Tesco this week, following a more than 30% increase in demand for low- and no-alcohol beers in the past year.
“Low- and no-alcohol beer is soaring in popularity, and that is down to a major improvement in the taste, quality and varieties that are now available," commented Tesco beer buyer Dom Hill.
“However, as the market has grown, low- and no-alcohol drinkers have become more discerning, so we are constantly looking at how we can improve the product range,” Hill added.
“We’ve been working with top British and international brewers and will now have 'low and no' varieties of not only lager, but ale, stout, [and] craft beer, as well as premium-quality cider,” he furthered.
Growing Market
Tesco sold more than 24 million bottles of low- and no-alcohol beer last year, and it is expecting this category to grow by as much as 30% this year.
Other SKUs in the low- and no-alcohol range include products from Adnams Ghost Ship, Estrella Damm, Heineken, Brew Dog, Kopparberg and Rekorderlig.
“In recent years, there have been great improvements in quality, with many breweries using far-better ingredients in order to create brews that are as good as their alcoholic cousins,” said Hill.
