The United Kingdom's Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has released figures which demonstrate a surge in the nation's gin industry, both domestically and otherwise.
The British gin industry has strengthened in value by 17.9 per cent in the past two years, and its output accounts for one-fifth of the global market, according to Nielsen. The WSTA, however, regards the tax on the beverage – which stands at 79 per cent in the UK – to be exorbitant.
High-end British gin is in the midst of a very prosperous period, riding the tide of increasing thirst for independently made craft drinks, with growth in the last two years of nearly 50 per cent.
