In terms of wine-consumption, the United States has surpassed France, drinking more litres per year than its Gallic counterpart.
The average US dweller consumes 12 litres of wine per annum. The country is also ahead of Italy, the second-most prominent old-world wine nation. The figures were compiled and computed by Agrifrance, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas Wealth Management.
Though Rabobank said earlier this year that North America is “the most attractive major market” for winemakers and distributors, Europe still dominates both consumption and production overall, giving the world 47 per cent of its wine, and drinking more than half of the planet’s viticultural produce.
