Waitrose has increased the Australian presence in its wine offering, adding SKUs which will retail at a number of different price points, and in the process changing almost half the products in its ‘Fine Wine’ portfolio.
Australia’s Storm Tree Shiraz 2015 will retail at £5.79, while its Simon Hackett The Champion Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Coonawarra will go on sale at £28.99.
The supermarket chain will also sell Fox Gordon ‘Sassy’ Sauvignon Blanc 2015 (£7.99), Eddystone Point Pinot Noir 2013 (£16.99), Atkins Farm Shiraz 2014 McLaren Vale (£9.99), Penfolds Bin 8 Cabernet-Shiraz 2013 (£19.99), and Jansz Premium Cuvée NV Pipers River (RRP: 16.99), among others.
The retailer will place particular emphasis on Burgundies, with the product offering now containing Labouré-Roi 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin (£28.99) and Jean-Jacques Girard 2012 Beaune Premier Cru Clos du Roi (£ 29.99).
Speaking to The Drinks Business, Alexandra Mawson, Waitrose wine buyer, said, “My aim has been to introduce further breadth and diversity, showcasing some charismatic and talented winemakers and their appealing, vibrant, top-value wines, many of which have never been sold in the UK before and are exclusive to Waitrose.
“I want Australia to grab more attention from our customers and enjoy exuberant sales growth.”
