UK retailer, Waitrose, has launched a new Andalucian wine, ANDA, into their UK stores.
The Southern Spanish wine will be available in 77 stores, as well as Waitrose Cellar online. It is the first non-fortified red wine from the region to become available to the UK market.
ANDA is supplied from Bodegas Tierra Hermosa, founded by Englishman Harry Hunt, and takes its inspiration from the region of Andalucia, and its popularity as a tourist destination for the British.
Harry Hunt commented: “Alongside its well-known sherries, Andalucían wines are now slowly gaining in reputation and recognition in the UK.
“Our existing Tierra Hermosa range is making great strides in the independent and on-trade sectors, with listings at Michelin-star restaurants, but in terms of the wider, mass market, Andalucía really is an undiscovered wine region.
“We believe ANDA is going to change that, and we are delighted to partner with the UK’s most innovative and high quality retailer, Waitrose, to do so.”
The first ANDA wine to be released at Waitrose is a Tempranillo/Syrah blend made with grapes grown on the mountains of Almeria province, in eastern Andalucia. It will retail at £7.99 per bottle.
