A low volume grape harvest in Switzerland for the third year in a row has caused anxiety in the country's wine industry.
Wine professionals fear that this crop failure will lead to Swiss wine losing out to foreign competitors, the Local reported.
A dry and hot summer has influenced wine production in the country, but it is not the only factor, with the use of 'Moon Privilege', a fungicide produced by German company Bayer, considered a reason.
Commenting, Gilles Cornut, president of the Vaud Wine Association, said that in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland's second largest wine production canton, the volume of wine is set to be below average.
The prospect of a third successive below-average volume is causing many winegrowers to worry.
In the past year, the sale of Swiss wine in supermarkets already fell by 2.6%. To prevent further losses, the industry is preparing for an earlier than usual harvest this year.
