German retailer Edeka has announced that its online shopping platform Bringmeister will commence offering a same day delivery service in Berlin.
With the expanded service, customers can place an order before 2pm, and their groceries will be delivered in a one hour window between 6pm and midnight.
Bringmeister has been part of the Edeka network since January 2017, and currently offers around 14,000 items for home delivery in Berlin and Munich.
Increasing Competition
Edeka faces competition from online retail giant Amazon, which launched its AmazonFresh grocery delivery service in Berlin in May.
This allows Amazon Prime members to place a order before 10pm and receive it the next day during a selected two-hour delivery window. Alternatively, if customers place an order before 10.30am, a selected range of more than 13,000 products can be delivered on the same day.
Last month, Amazon extended its service to Hamburg, and now features a range of more than 300,000 products in total.
