Spanish retailer Eroski has announced it will extend its 'Contigo' (which translates as 'with you'), business model, which aims to provide its customers with a more healthy and sustainable diet.
The group announced at its general assembly that it has removed over 347 tonnes of sugar, salt and fat from its stores over the past year, through the introduction of new own brand products. It has also increased the diversity of its supply chain to create a production network with over 9,000 suppliers.
Eroski closed the year with 512 ‘new generation stores’, which are more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Expansion
Eroski president Agustín Markaide said, “We are now beginning a new stage in which we will continue to evolve the 'Contigo'commercial model, which has brought us to where we wanted to be in 2017.
"We will continue to extend the model to the rest of the commercial network, with own store openings, remodelling and new franchise stores.”
President of the Eroski governing board, Leire Mugerza, added that the company is ready "to face new challenges and continue to contribute value to society".
