ESM's first issue of the year typically sees us assess the latest developments in Retail Technology – and given the COVID-affected year we've just had, technology has arguably never been more important in terms of future retail development. As well as that, we reveal the finalists in the 2021 European Private Label Awards, highlight the latest trends in The World of Packaging, Beauty & Cosmetics and Dairy Products markets, and a lot more besides.
Retail Technology
Retail Technology was already advancing at a rapid pace in the pre-COVID world, but now, more than half a year on from the outbreak of the pandemic, it has arguably never been so important. From the growth of online and e-commerce channels, to the introduction of safety and security systems in-store, to the development of warehouse and logistics automation, technology is likely to reshape retail in the coming years. ESM looks ahead to what the future might hold.
Dairy Products
According to a recent study, consumers are increasingly seeking out products with locally-sourced ingredients, 'clean label' product formulation and sustainability credentials – areas which have likely been magnified by the prolonged COVID-19 crisis, and to which the Dairy Products industry is well-attuned. Healthy living is leading to a wealth of investment in dairy products with added-value benefits, such as protein milkshakes, while many retailers are also embracing animal welfare as part of their dairy offering. While the pandemic has undoubtedly had some impact on production chains, this is one category that has well positioned for future growth. ESM reports.
Beauty & Cosmetics
While the Beauty & Cosmetics sector took a bit of a hit during the early months of the COVID crisis, the sector is fighting back with an increased focus on health and wellness, and products that feature added-value benefits for those looking to maintain a positive skin regime during a period of increased lockdown measures. This, in turn, opens the door for private label manufacturers, as consumers seek out products with a strong quality-price ratio, which develop in line with current trends. ESM explores the growth of the cosmetics and skincare sectors within the grocery industry.
The World Of Packaging
The packaging sector has been under the spotlight like never before in recent years, with demand for greater efficiency and sustainability, as well as impactful design influencing the sector. In the past year, the COVID-19 crisis has also influenced the role of packaging in our daily lives, with increased demand for safe, secure solutions. ESM's The World of Packaging report will examine the packaging sector as it looks ahead to the rest of the decade, featuring insight from leading packaging industry analysts and research firms.
