The current chief executive of French electronics and media retailer Fnac Darty, Alexandre Bompard, has emerged as the most likely candidate to succeed Georges Plassat as chief executive of Carrefour, according to local media reports.
According to Le JDD.com (Le Journal Du Dimanche) the appointment of Bompard could be announced in the coming days, with an insider telling the paper that the 44-year-old "ticks a lot of boxes".
Bompard oversaw the takeover by Fnac of its rival Darty, and has implemented a strict cost-saving initiative at the group, with the aim of achieving €130 million in cost savings by 2018 - indications are that it will achieve this faster than the proposed date.
He has also overseen a tripling of the stock market valuation of Fnac since his arrival, with Le JDD.com noting he is something of a 'darling of the business community'.
Career
Bompard also previously worked for telecommunications firms Europe1 and Canal+, and is also previously a technical advisor to the Cabinet of former Prime Minister François Fillon.
Current Carrefour chief executive Georges Plassat was announced as CEO in January 2012, replacing Lars Olofsson in the role.
