Russia intends to bolster its ban on EU agricultural imports by restricting fruit and vegetable re-exports through European countries.
According to freshfruitportal.com, Russia has already stopped re-exports through Bulgaria following suspicions that companies in the country are using false documents to get around Russia's import ban, highlighting that the ban is being enforced in light of examples where apple shipments had been intercepted with suspected fake phytosanitary documents from Brazil and Morocco.
Rosselkhoznadzo deputy head Julia Shvabauskene also said that the organisation was considering the possibility of not accepting any European re-export certificates at all.
Since Russia implemented its ban on EU agricultural imports last August, there has been rising suspicion that other countries have been re-exporting the region’s produce by falsifying documentation.
