UK retailer Asda has said that it anticipates pumpkin sales to be 61% higher this season than they were two years ago.
In fact, with the harvest already having collected some two million pumpkins, the biggest varieties, known as ‘Big Doris’ and ‘Gladiator’, will weigh up to 30 kilograms this year, thanks to the recent bouts of warm weather and plentiful rain.
“We were surprised to see that the weather conditions meant we had to bring forward the start of harvest to September 1st” said Kevin Curson, Asda Pumpkin Grower.
Pumpkins will be available in stores from 5 October in Medium, Large and Extra Large size, as the demand for the product has risen over the years.
Consequently, Asda has doubled the amount of pumpkin sales around Halloween, from 1.35 million in 2015 to 2.2 million predicted for this year.
