Auchan Retail France has announced that it is launching a new range of fruits and vegetables that are produced without the use of pesticides.
The retailer has started the project with oranges and clementines, which are now on sale in Auchan stores, but plans to roll out its full range by 2020.
The range will be sold at the same price as standard fruits and vegetables, as part of Auchan’s commitment to promoting ‘healthy and local’ produce.
Benefits
The company says that reducing the use of pesticides limits the impact on the environment, is beneficial to the health of farmers, and is likely to benefit consumers, too.
As a result, it will be working with local farmers, guaranteeing purchase volumes and prices, to support them in this agricultural change.
Auchan says that these developments are in response to changing consumer demands. The retailer opened its first store dedicated to organic and health-focused food, Auchanbio, last month.
