UK retailer Waitrose has announced that it has experienced a significant rise in sales of barbecue foods, with pork rib sales up 33 per cent, marinated chicken breasts up 30 per cent, steak burgers 28 per cent, and lamb kofta kebabs by 20 per cent.
The clement weather and recent bank holiday weekend in Britain have stimulated the strong sales rises, the retailer says.
“Salads and barbecue accompaniments are also on the rise, with salad onions 20 per cent, radishes 11 per cent and pre-packed beetroot 10 per cent and, in addition to this, Waitrose is predicting to see sales of bagged salads rise a 12 per cent over the weekend,” the company said.
"As everyone knows, burgers, sausages and steaks are great indoors or out!," said Frances Westerman, barbecue meat buyer for Waitrose.
