Waitrose shoppers can now enjoy 100% British sweetcorn, as Sefter Farm in West Sussex has produced its first harvest of sweetcorn plants this summer.
Sales of sweetcorn have risen by 6% at Waitrose, as British barbecue lovers enjoy the home-grown cobs.
According to Barfoots.com, sweetcorn sales at Waitrose are predicted to rise by 30%, as consumers indulge in al-fresco dining, driving the sales of cobs supplied by Barfoots of Bognor Regis.
Patrick Keane, a Waitrose buyer, comments, “All eyes are on South America this summer when it comes to food, home to some of the tastiest sweetcorn recipes, but with our own sweetcorn tasting this good, Bognor is giving Brazil a run for its money.
“Sweetcorn is robust enough to cook on the barbecue and makes great finger food, which is what summer dining is all about.”
