Carrefour Belgium has announced that it is introducing a line of free-range chickens that have been reared without antibiotics.
As part of the Carrefour Quality Line, the retailer says that this range adheres to its commitment to provide customers with authentic, high-quality products at affordable prices.
Rearing Conditions
Carrefour says that these chickens are reared out in the open and are given 100% plant-based feeds that are enriched with essential oils and are at least 75% cereal based.
The animals are treated without antibiotics, but are instead given plants and plant extracts, which promote the development of their natural resistance.
Carrefour Belgium is working with 150 producers on this line. Each packet of chicken will feature a QR code that the customer can scan with a smartphone, leading to a short video about the producer who has reared the chicken.
