The Envergure joint purchasing centre, which negotiates prices for the Carrefour and U Enseigne groups, has partnered with Lactalis, Sodiaal, Yoplait and Laïta to offer better remuneration to around 28,000 French milk producers.
The move demonstrates that retailers and processors can come up with concrete solutions to address income-related issues faced by dairy producers, Carrefour said in a press release.
It is also fully in line with the initiative started by France's National Food Conference.
Better Income
The sale of more than 500 million dairy products under partner brands in Carrefour and U Enseigne Group retail outlets will generate higher revenue for producers following the move, Carrefour said.
This will include products from brands such as Président, Lactel, La Laitière, Lanquetot, Lepetit, Chaussée aux Moines, Yoplait, Yop, Petits Filous, Perle de lait, Entremont, Candia and Paysan Breton.
