Peruvian farmers are set to be able to connect directly with potential buyers through newly unveilled app, ConectAgro.
The project was a submission to the fourth StartUp Perú competions, and took the top prize in the ‘Innovative Enterpreneurs’ category, reports Gestion.pe.
ConnectAgro will work by reverse auction, in other words, possible buyers will post their requirements and a reference price on the app, as well as payment conditions. Registered farmers will then be able to compete to fulfill the order.
The objective of the new tool is to improve prices for farmers and allow for faster negotiations.
ConectAgro's team was advised by Kent Langley, teacher at Singularity University, a university funded by Google and NASA.
Peru is expected to become one of the top ten fresh produce suppliers in the world, according to recent comments made by the country’s minister for Agriculture and Irrigation, Juan Manuel Benites, and reported by Andina.com.
