Contronics Dry Misting has received an award from the European Commission for its research project ‘Fresh Demo’.
With this EU funded project, Contronics has proven that its Dry Misting technology makes a significant contribution to reducing food waste.
Dry Misting technology creates a fine layer of pure mist in the air. This mist cools and protects fresh products, such as fruits and vegetables, from dehydrating.
Dry Misting is different from plain water sprayers as its unique technology does not soak the fresh produce or the shelves, and can even re-hydrate products like leafy greens.
Each Dry Misting system is able to cut the waste of fruit and vegetables by up to 33 tonnes annually.
In supermarkets alone, shrinkage can be reduced by 25%. In addition, Dry Misting has enabled Contronics’ clients to scale down the plastic packaging of their fruit and vegetables.
In this way, a potential saving of 7,000 tonnes of plastic can be achieved globally.
