German food manufacturer Dr. Oetker and Bavarian dairy producer Molkerei Gropper have begun production in a plant in Moers, after German antitrust authorities greenlit their proposed joint venture.
The focus of the production site is the further development of the Desserts category, as well as the development of new dairy products such as quark, yoghurt, milk and non-dairy alternatives.
The new operation started production on 1 July.
Exploiting Efficiencies
The joint venture, named Moers Frischeprodukte GmbH & Co. KG, was announced in early 2018. Each partner owns 50% of the joint venture, with Dr. Oetker bringing to the table the existing facility in Moers, and Molkerei Gropper providing capital for investments in buildings, infrastructure and new production facilities.
Martin Reintjes, sales director at Dr. Oetker, said at the time of the announcement that the entity was a way "to enable the partners to exploit production efficiencies that both sides are striving for in the future."
