A survey, carried out by market research firm GfK for Fruchthandel magazine has resulted in top marks for both Edeka and Lidl's fruit and vegetable departments, in the categories of 'LEH Food Vollsortimenter’ (Complete Food-Retail Range) and 'Discounters' respectively.
The survey was carried out among 9,000 German households, and released to coincide with the Fruit Logistica event taking place in Berlin.
Edeka secured first place for its fruit and veg range, across its branded- and private labels, such as Edeka-Bio, Edeka-Selection and Gut & Günstig. This was the fourth year that Edeka came first in this category.
In the category ‘Discounters’, rival German retailer Lidl took first place for the second consecutive year.
The deciding criteria in the Fruchthandel magazine contest included the selection, presentation and quality of the produce, as well as customer service and price / performance ratio, and the companies’ trustworthiness regarding the provenance and certification of imported and locally-grown produce.
