Spanish retailer Eroski has increased the amount of D.O Roncal cheese it purchases by 75%, the company has reported. The retailer expects to have purchased 40,000 kg of the cheese by the end of the year, it said.
The retailer made the announcement at the launch of its new 'cheese season' in stores. Chef Koldo Rodero, an expert in Navarran cuisine, was present to make the first cheese cut.
Patxi Zalba, the president of the Regulatory Council of D.O Roncal, said that the cheese is produced by milking of Latxa sheep, an animal that is fed with pasture and forage. "It's a first level product, with quality guaranteed", Zalba said.
