Eroski Prepares For World Cheese Awards 2016

Spanish retailer Eroski and farmers' association Artzai-Gazta have agreed to collaborate on the 28th edition of the World Cheese Awards, to be held as part of the International Cheese Festival in Donostia/San Sebastián in November of this year, the company has said.

The occasion will serve to promote artisanal cheese production. The International Cheese Festival will be an event during which the sector reaffirms its commitment to rural development. Some of the activities that will take place include tastings, gastronomy, workshops and conferences.

The International Cheese Festival will offer more than 3,000 varieties of cheese from 40 countries. It is expected that 250 cheese-tasters will participate in the event. As well as welcoming approximately 20,000 guests, the festival will host well-known chefs. Producers and buyers will also have a space to engage in negotiations.

Recently, Eroski has listed more local products on its shelves, and today the Spanish retailer offers 1,415 varieties of cheese, from 216 providers. It recorded €40 million in cheese sales in 2015.
