Fruit Luxury is set to harvest its first cherries a month and a half before the rest of the world (and just one month ahead of the rest of Spain).
NoticiasHuesca.com reports that approximately 40,000 kilos of greenhouse cherries are expected to be harvested by the company from 15 April.
The work will continue through May and June, to gather another expected 150,000 kilos.
Francisco de Pablo, manager of family-run Fruit Luxury, said that the cherries mark the beginning of spring, and that his company is one of the few to commercialise early varieties that reach the market at premium prices before any other cherry.
He added that a mild winter is to blame for a slight delay this year, as "cherries need a bit of cold".
