Greek fresh produce suppliers need to work towards greater market share in the German market, according to a fresh produce adviser in a recent interview.
Currently 11 per cent of Greek fruit and vegetables are exported to the German market. Germany's big supermarket chains account for around 75 per cent of all fruit and vegetable sales in its home market.
In an interview with Agrotypos, Georgios Polichronakis, special adviser of Incofruit - Hellas, said, "Greece needs to seek greater penetration in German food retail chains."
He continued, "In recent years, there has been a trustworthy relationship between Greek exporters with food chains and this should help boost Greek exports. What is needed is simply responsibly from the Greek side."
