Kaufland Slovakia has announced that it sold more than 50 million kilograms of fruit and vegetables sourced from Slovak producers in 2017, and it intends to increase this figure in the coming year.
In a statement, the company said that it currently partnered with Slovak producers holding a combined 3,845 hectares of fields and 92 hectares of greenhouses.
The company indicated that its total offer for 2017 represented an average of nine kilograms of fruit and vegetables per person in Slovakia.
Supporting Local
Kaufland spokeswoman Lucia Langová stressed the importance of guaranteeing stable sales to over 200 Slovak producers, saying, "We want to support domestic production and sell as many fruit and vegetables from Slovakia as possible."
Kaufland's commitment to local Slovak producers is reminiscent of the Schwarz Group-owned K-Vreau din România (‘I Want from Romania’) campaign in Romania – another important market for the retailer – which saw it launch its first private-label range for products made exclusively in Romania in late 2017.
