German discounter Lidl has expanded its banana assortment with the addition of three new varieties, two of which are Fairtrade-certified.
From summer 2019, customers can buy these new varieties in all Lidl stores throughout Germany.
Customer Requests
The three variants enable consumers to buy products that fit best with their needs and lifestyle habits, Lidl said.
Moreover, the discounter is adding conventional Rainforest Alliance-certified bananas to its range and selling them at an entry-level price in order to meet the customer demand for affordable sustainability.
"We will continue to educate our customers on the value of Fairtrade-certified products and we stand by Fairtrade," commented Jan Bock, purchasing manager at Lidl Germany.
The company is currently exploring the option of further expanding its offering of Fairtrade bananas at an international level.
