Dutch company Liquidseal, known for its treatment that extends the lifespan of perishable products such as roses and amarillys bulbs, has developed and launched similar coatings for tropical fruits.
Victor Monster, spokesperson from Liquidseal, told Freshplaza.es that the company's R&D department has thoroughly tested three new formulas to use on fruit such as avocados, mangoes and papayas.
He added that the formulas "comply with all EU regulations and the USA's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for use on hard-shelled fruit."
The treatments can be applied after harvest, either through immersion or with a spray, and that the company is developing similar formulas for citrus fruits.
Monster concluded by saying, "We are offering an innovative way to pack and coat.
"The specific characteristics of Liquidseal affect the produce's metabolism and its slow release mechanism allow us to considerably reduce pesticide use."
