The odds of finding an egg with two yolks are about one in a thousand, yet Marks & Spencer is now guaranteeing them.
The boon of receiving one of these anomalous eggs is that in doubling the yolk, the egg's source of Vitamins B12, B6, A, K, E and folic acid is also doubled. Also multiplied is an egg's calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, selenium and iron. Undoubtedly, there will also be a certain novelty factor to buying boxes of the 'double-yolkers'.
Marks & Spencer's suppliers inspect their eggs under powerful lights that make their interiors visible to the human eye, and so the eggs in question can be hand-picked.
The retailer's product developer, Ali Rodham, was quoted as saying in The Guardian, "We're really excited to be selling double-yolkers. We think they're cracking, and we're sure our customers will, too.
"Perfect for people who think the yolk is the best bit of the egg, double-yolkers are not only delicious, but they are healthy, too."
