Agromediterránea, Mercadona's internal agricultural produce supplier, reached sales of over €85.7 million in 2015, which represents a growth of 42.3% compared to the previous year.
According to gondoladigital.com, it also increased its volume, reaching 114.500 tonnes (+54.8%), as well as the amount of units produced (176.6 million units for an increase of 53%).
These figures consolidate Agromediterránea as one of Murcia's main agricultural enterprises, with over 5,000 hectares of planted land. Agromediterránea produces over 30 different agricultural products. The company has incorporated new additions to its range this year to keep up to date with consumers' needs and current trends.
Besides supplying Mercadona, one of the main factors in the business' growth has been its international expansion. Agromediterránea has reached over 20 markets and has established commercial links with nearly 30 large distribution chains. International sales account currently for 20 per cent of the company's income.
Employment has also increased at the company. In 2015, 134 new jobs were created (11 per cent more than the previous year), for a total of 1,326 workers.
