Morrisons, the UK supermarket chain that recently declared that it has returned to growth, has appointed Tom Richardson, who formerly held the Waitrose position of senior meat-buyer, as its category director for meat, according to The Grocer.
Richardson comes directly from Australian grocer Coles, where he was its meat-category manager for three years. His appointment is intended to stimulate growth in Morrisons' control of the UK meat sector, which stood at 12.1 per cent on 24 April of this year.
He previously worked for almost ten years with Waitrose, holding numerous roles, among which were agricultural manager, and senior meat-buyer.
Chief executive of Morrisons, David Potts, said that Richardson will “play an important role in improving our fresh-meat offering, making it even better for customers who rightly expect the best quality at keen prices.”
