UK retailer Morrisons has introduced restaurant-quality steaks, fish and shellfish for half price in its new summer steak and seafood bars.
The move aims to help British farmers and fishermen by providing a platform to sell surplus food as the demand from restaurants came to a halt after the country went into lockdown on 23 March following as outbreak of coronavirus.
Morrisons chief executive, David Potts, commented, “We are playing our full part in feeding the nation and providing a home for some of the top-quality meat and seafood that our country produces. The opening of these bars will provide restaurant food at knock-out prices.”
Product Range
The half-price offer will include 20 species of seafood and all restaurant-style steaks, the retailer said.
The seafood selection will include, among others, Dover sole, scallops, squid, turbot, and monkfish tails.
The prices of all fillet, sirloin, ribeye and rump steak in the new steak and BBQ bar in supermarkets have been reduced to half, Morrisons added.
The initiative comes at a time when more people are cooking at home and experimenting with new recipes.
