Enjoying a flavourful strawberry with a crisp bite in January? It may seem like a fairy tale, but it’s closer to the truth than you might think.
For the third year in a row, Special Fruit is putting the Calinda premium variety on the European market. During this time, this strawberry has evolved into the best alternative to a tasty, Spanish spring strawberry. It has an incredible shelf life, a deep red colour, and a sweet, juicy flavour.
The faith in this variety is so strong that, in the past year, Special Fruit has invested in more cultivation land in new regions, full-time cultivation assistance, and new, innovative 400-gramme packaging.
Sustainability in the production process was also taken into account. Calinda's ambition is to cultivate a strawberry in the near future that is certified 'zero residue' under the supervision of Zerya specialists. In addition to this, there are also quantities of organic Calindas available.
Calinda is a masterpiece by Fresh Forward Breeding, one of Europe’s most valued developers, having already introduced the Sonata, Rumba and Jive varieties.
You can enjoy these strawberries from mid-January to late May. Special Fruit and Foodpairing, an online tool for creating flavour combinations, has developed an original recipe that is slightly more savoury than the well-known sweet version. The basic ingredients are tomato, Parmesan, basil, and Calinda strawberries.
