NIREUS has won the Superior Taste Award 2020 for its Meagre and Amberjack fish, in an event organised by the International Taste Institute.
It is a very significant accomplishment for the company, as its Meagre won for the second time, while Amberjack participated in the competition for the first time. In addition, it is the first time Amberjack has received the award.
Amberjack is a strong, muscular fish capable of swimming very quickly.
Aquaculture has enabled the availability of this fish throughout the year, making up for the seasonality of wild catch.
Its production in Greece is carried out through multifaceted open cooperation with groups of producers and research bodies, while research for the development of the species is financed by European funds.
Founded in 2005 in Brussels, Belgium, the International Taste Institute (former iTQi) is a leader in the evaluation and certification of taste.
The judges on the panel comprised of more than 200 renowned Michelin-starred chefs and award-winning sommeliers from 15 European culinary or sommeliers associations.
The scoring process involved a blind tasting methodology, where product samples were anonymised to avoid any bias in evaluation.
The jury also provided suggestions on food pairing and product improvement.
