Norway’s NorgesGruppen has announced that it expects to sell around 3,000 tonnes of Norwegian apples this year, which will beat last year’s sales of 2,500 tonnes.
The final delivery will be comprised of 80 tonnes of apples, which will reach its stores by next week.
Pål Westby, category director of fruit and vegetables in NorgesGruppen, said, “Customers love Norwegian apples, and this year, the sunny and warm summer made sure that the Norwegian apples have become extra sweet and good to taste. This has led to record sales of the Norwegian apples in Norway's stores.”
The group, which operates the Kiwi, Joker and Many chains, among others, recently announced that it was scrapping plastic packaging for its apples.
Instead, it uses sustainable materials such as paper bags and cardboard packaging, which have been well received by customers.
