PepsiCo has thrown its support behind a climate-change initiative introduced by the US government, by pledging an increase in its sustainable farming of fresh produce such as potatoes, corn and oats, Just-Food.com reports.
The changes are to be effected by the end of next year. PepsiCo is among 13 American multinationals that have promised support to the climate-change project, including Google, Goldman Sachs, Berkshire Hathaway, and Cargill, one of the most prominent agribusiness firms in America.
By the end of next year, PepsiCo will have 500,000 acres of land devoted to sustainable farming. It also claims that it is actively improving its means of acquiring energy through a fuel-efficiency programme.
Cargill has promised to further reduce emissions, water use and energy consumption.
Obama's administration has entitled the operation the 'American Business Act on Climate Pledge'.
