Grupo Pereira has diversified its business with the purchase - through its company Armadora Pereira - of 100 per cent of Conservas Portomar.
According to the Spanish website alimarket.es, the group specialises in the fishing, processing and commercialising of frozen fish and seafood.
It reported sales of €135 million in 2015, after delivering 42,000 tonnes of frozen fish and 3,000 tonnes of frozen seafood to the market. These figures place the company as the fifth biggest in the category.
With the acquisition, Pereira enters the business of preserved food, in which it had no presence until now. The group will maintain Conservas Portomar's commercial agreements with delicatessen and commercial chains such as El Corte Inglés, 20 per cent of its total business.
In total, its sales in 2015 was €4 million, a decline compared to the €4.8 million achieved the previous year. Grupo Pererira intends to promote Portomar domestically and abroad, relying on its wide experience on international markets.
